A lifeguard, while on duty, is sometimes faced with an accident or incident where the lifeguard is expected to treat injuries and conditions.
To prepare the lifeguard for this, Reddingsbrigade Noordwijk trains its lifeguards in Red Cross first aid. Upon completion of the course, the lifeguard will be able to bring a victim to safety, assess the victim's condition, perform CPR, use an AED and provide first aid. Upon successful completion of the course, the lifeguard will receive a European recognized Red Cross certificate (Comprehensive First Aid).
Although this certificate has a validity of 2 years, we ask the lifeguards to demonstrate annually that they still possess the skills and have the necessary knowledge. For this purpose the lifeguard association organizes refresher courses, training and exercises.
